So I noticed that I do well some nights and very, very poorly on other nights.

Sometimes I "don't feel like I'm in the mood," which of course makes me feel like a chode.

My question is:

What do you guys do, on an individual basis, to maximize the chance of having a "good" night? I'm sure there's a physiological as well as a mental side, right? What do you do to get in state? To get IN THE ZONE?

Sleep a full 8 hours? DON'T sleep 8 hours?
Work out in the morning? In the afternoon? Not at all that day?
Eat a big dinner? Don't eat dinner?
Drink a monster/red bull/rockstar?
Don't jerk it for a few days? (Heard this one from Style's book lolz)
Imagine your role model talking to you, inspiring you to pursue your dream?
Think only happy thoughts?
Talk to yourself in the mirror?
Listen to calming music? Listen to loud, driving music?

Anything that helps you get consistent results. Let me know. =)

Being out of state is probably one of the best things that helped my progress. An example is going out every night for two weeks. By the end of it, you're usually too tired to give a fuck and definitely not "in state." As a result, you stop filtering interactions through your head and just flow with the moment.

State is a crutch. Don't worry about it. Go out feeling like crap and push yourself to perform regardless.

I agree with Decibal. One thing that helps is warm up sets. I will force open a few sets right off the bat knowing that i may not be on my "A" game and will probably say some stupid stuff and usually i do say stupid things but after that i instantly feel more "in state" and you really get some momentum going. I really think that the best remedy is warm up sets, and going in with the the mind set that it is just to warm up seems to take pressure off.

I agree with Decibel as usual. and nothing wrong with warm up conversations New Balance. :drinks:

I found that most of my best nights are so called, "out of state." I frankly just don't care and still have the ability to approach and hook sets with the greatest of ease. It's a type of flow state. The less I talk it seems, the less likely It will go wrong. "Less is More." With a try to hard mentality, that's what it ends up being. Your to worried and thinking to much about what to say/do next. You end up shooting yourself in the foot.

Now that I can compare this sense of being with the so called "getting in state" I've realized it has caused more problems than has helped.

Bottom line is that if you are asking "How do I get in state?," what you are really asking is, "How do I clear my mind from all this stupid shit so that I can just have a good time and hook up with chicks."

This question almost answers itself. The trick is to quit thinking. When you are out in field you should only feel the world around you. What is going on inside you should just be. Not good, not bad, not anything; just being. What other people think of you and your anxiety toward them really have no meaning, unless you listen to the useless chatter from the meaning making machine (the egotistic part of your brain).

People wrestle their anxiety as if it was real. In return, they make it real. Every second you do so, you give it energy that it uses to fuck you up. Your subconscious is trying to keep you safe and out of risk so it will use every tool and ounce of energy you give it to do it's job. Learn to override it with ear muffs on and just flow. Being in state has no meaning. You need to might need to get your core handled for this.

I just read a LR from Manwhore which is a really good example of this.

Stand in a close circle with your wings and backhand slap each other's balls

Always get 8 hours of sleep.
Workout 3-4 times/week, anytime.
Don't drink caffeine or alcohol, stay super hydrated with water
Jerking off or not doesn't truly matter.
Always stay positive.
Listen to any music that puts you in a good mood.

Most importantly, like dB was saying, the best way to stay in set is to keep on approaching girls and going out. That's the stuff that will build your confidence and feel good.
